Given the number of people with Weblogs, the large number of which appear to be operated by “Geeks” of one stripe or another, the small number of clients to assist with posting is quite surprising – perhaps even a tribute to the success of web-based applications. As with web-based email, convenience seems to be more than a substitute for all of the things that User Interface designers and researchers have been working so hard to perfect for the last twenty years or so.

Neither of these are free or open source – though a couple of free Dashboard widgets and the cross-platform (Java-based) JBlogEditor appear to be available.
Of all of these, MarsEdit appears to be the only UI written purely for OS X, and appears quite slick, once set up. We’ll see if it lasts the 30-day trial.
