Unlike many comedians and satirists, Bremner has often impressed me with the depth of his research and understanding of the issues about which he talks. His Between Iraq and a Hard Place (IMDB entry here), despite the fact that it was produced by three comedians, and whether or not one agrees with its anti-war message, was one of the best discussions of the build-up to the recent war in Iraq and they way it was (at the time) being sold to the British public. There were at one time videos of the programme available from Channel 4 online, though these seem to have vanished. A quick search shows that they are still available from other places.
He is in even more serious mood in today’s Telegraph, and his piece about modern society and its attitudes to safety, security and liberty is worth a read and a ponder.
