For the truly paranoid, careless parent, help is now at hand in the form of the i-Kids child tracking device. In this initial version, the device is not actually surgically implanted, though perhaps this step is just a matter of time. Under UK law, it seems, the poor child would actually have the consent to such tracking once at the age of twelve, though it seems that below that the civil liberties of one’s children are fair game.
I’m most amused by the pricing structure. Not only is there an initial charge and a monthly fee, but there is a 30p charge every time one wishes to know where one’s child is. This seems to me a pricing structure very similar to good, old-fashioned ransoming, and a totally justified tax on utter stupidity.
