The next version of MS Office looks set to bring powerful tools for creating business graphics - if by powerful you mean create complex, artistic (by MS standards) slides with only a few clicks
The problem with such tools is that if you have seen one, you have seen all, of the results. As a stand-alone piece, your Powerpoint presentation will look impressive. The problem is that it will look identical to all the others. At which point, the design will just look tired.
That, it seems to me, is the problem with more distinctive, artistic, default designs. If everyone is to have the same layout, it’s probably better if it is a more conservative one.
Apple face a similar problem with their new email templates. Yes, they will look good when you get the first one - but tired when you get the forth.
