Here’s a real world example: if you have a high-end video card that doesn’t offer DRM support you might have to disable that card before playing back your shiny new Blu-Ray disc.
That’s right, folks, Microsoft has deliberately designed an operating system that will not make you the best use of your hardware. You might be better off turning off some of the good stuff. You can read about why at Wired.com.
It boils down to this: Microsoft is gambling that if it offers “content producers” (record labels, film distributors etc.) a platform with a uniquely tough set of restrictions on how users use that content would enable it to be particularly attractive to them, and encourage them to licence their content for use only with Microsoft products. It’s a strategy that deserves to fail.
