I keep hearing that the “monopoly” on the delivery of letters has ended, and that there is now competition. But it’s a strange form of competition.
As an individual, as far as I can see, Royal Mail still has a monopoly, and the prices of all services are increasing from 2nd April. There seems to be competition in the business sector, where prices are falling, I’m told.
Which means that as a member of the public, the removal of the monopoly has seen the price of my post increase so that mass-mailers can send me more junk mail at a reduced cost. How is this in my interest?
